Back Pain

Is chronic back pain limiting you from living the life you want to live? Then Balance Chiropractic may be the solution for you! Most people will experience some sort of back pain in their lifetime. Sometimes acute and sharp and can prevent you from living optimally. Most of the time we try to push through the pain until it becomes unbearable or until our family makes us seek care.

Pain in the back can range from annoying to crippling. It can be hard to pinpoint and address and it can constantly flare-up. Common management in medicine relies on non-steroidal pain medications or muscle relaxers. While these medications may temporarily halt symptoms, they come with side effects and don’t address the root cause. A specific neurological evaluation by a Pineville chiropractor can help you determine where your pain is originating from.

Can chronic stress cause back pain?

Chronic stress can have a huge impact on our health. If the stress is unaddressed, it can cause hypertension and chronic back pain. Our body releases stress hormones that can cause chronic tension in the muscles. Muscle tension can correlate to trigger points and adhesions. Chiropractors can help relieve trigger point pain and tension. However, if the underlying stress is not addressed then the muscle tension and pain will come back. Chiropractic care can help restore balance in the nervous system reducing stress and helping to provide a more long-term solution.

Are you tired of suffering from headaches and migraines? Living with these issues can affect your work, social and family life causing you to have a lower quality of life. Medications can help but you may be seeking another option. Balance Chiropractic is here to help with our state-of-the-art technology.

When the bones of the spine move out of alignment due to either repetitive stress or trauma it can cause pressure and irritation of the surrounding nerves. That irritation can cause muscular spasms in the neck, back, or jaw.

By targeting the nerves and the interference it helps to address the root cause of the migraines and headaches. Specific, gentle chiropractic adjustments allow your proper alignment and communication between the nervous system. This allows the muscles to relax and for proper blood flow. The brain sends messages down through the spinal cord in the spinal column and then out to the spinal nerves going to every part of the body. Determining where there is nerve interference and removing that interference through chiropractic adjustments is key to long-term results. At Balance Chiropractic, we perform a nerve examination on everyone to determine the best course of action for you. Dr. Erin utilizes a very specific technique without any twisting, popping or cracking to properly align the bones in the spine. Our goal is to allow your body to heal and function the way it is supposed to.

Neck Pain

Did you sleep wrong? Are you having trouble turning your head? Do you have a constant kink in your neck? It may be time to go see Dr. Erin at Balance Chiropractic. There can be a lot of different causes for neck pain that is why it is important to have a thorough evaluation, including a neurological assessment and possibly x-rays to determine the cause.

The nerves in the neck control the muscles around the neck, shoulder and down through the arms and hands, as well as control the eyes, ears, nose and throat. If the spinal bones in that area misalign or subluxate it will cause a decreased range of motion. If left untreated it will lead to abnormal posture which will cause muscular tension and increased biomechanical stress. The combination of a restricted range of motion and poor posture leads to damage to joints and spinal discs. Chiropractic x-rays will relieve any degeneration to the joints or spinal discs. Everyone’s spine looks different, and it is important to see in order to best treat you. At Balance Chiropractic, we will review your x-rays with you and go over your recommendations for care.

Chronic Stress Can Contribute to Neck Pain

Stress hormones can cause muscle tension and trigger points. Our goal at Balance Chiropractic is to restore balance by removing nerve interference in the nervous system which reduces the amount of stress in the body.

Stuck at a computer all day? Looking down at your phone or tablet?

Being stuck in a constant position for hours takes a tremendous toll on our health. We are seeing changes to the spines at much younger ages than ever before due to our increased screen time. Forward head posture is a natural progression with prolonged sitting. The process beings with a muscular imbalance called an upper cross syndrome. It is when the pecs become tight while the rhomboids in the back become weakened and elongated. As the head shifts forward it causes the spine to shit as well. 1in of forward head posture can add 10olbs of stress to the cervical spine (neck) and even pull on the low back. Want to know if you have a forward head posture? A simple rule to go by is that your ears should line up over your shoulders when looking from the side view. No more humpbacks!

Scoliosis is a curvature in your spine of more than 10 degrees. There has been a lot of research on scoliosis but there is no clear reason for why is develops. Studies do suggest that is more common in young women. It generally starts with one vertebra being out of place and the rest of the spine starts to follow. It causes muscle strains and imbalances in the body. Scoliosis can develop later in life if there is degeneration within the spine.

There are many different ways to treat scoliosis, here at Balance Chiropractic we take the approach of the least invasive and natural way first. Research has shown that chiropractic care is effective in helping scoliosis. An x-ray performed by your doctor will help them to know the best way to help you through gentle, specific chiropractic adjustments.

Do you suffer from pain in your low back and then radiates down your legs and maybe all the way into your feet? It is time to seek a Pineville chiropractor to see how we can help. Sciatica is pain that starts in the low back and buttock region and then travels down the back of legs and into the feet. Severe cases of sciatica can be down both legs and cause numbness and tingling. The pain can increase with prolonged sitting or standing. If left untreated it will usually worsen.

Chiropractic care specifically re-algins the spine to allow proper motion in the spinal joints and less pressure on the nerves. The recovery time will vary depending on the severity of spinal dysfunction. The longer the issue has been present the longer it will take to heal.

The sciatic nerve is the longest nerve in the body that originates from the L4 to S3 spinal nerves. It contains both motor and sensory components. The sciatic nerve pain occurs when an unnatural pressure causes irritation of the nerve. Some common causes are disc injuries or disc bulges. Damage to the spinal disc generally takes time and is accelerated by overuse, repetitive movements, poor posture and trauma. A simple action such as sneezing, bending can trigger the pan. However, that was just the last straw your body could take. In all of these cases, there is an underlying weakness that needs to be corrected. The pain may eventually go away on its own but it will most likely come back and maybe even worse than before.

Sciatica During Pregnancy

Many mothers will experience sciatic pain during pregnancy. A hormone called relaxin peaks around 14-16 weeks in pregnancy. Relaxin causes the pelvic ligaments to relax (to make room for the baby) but it can also cause pain in the sacroiliac joint (SI joint) or cause irritation of the sciatic nerve. Dr. Erin is trained in Webster’s technique to gently realign the spine to restore balance in the pelvis.
